Rest and Sleep
The last class we learned about the rest schedule and sleep of the japanese culture, it was really interesting to discover they don't sleep that much, in comparison I could say that the mexican culture sleeps more definetly but is not more than the average world sleep hour schedule. Personally I sleep 10 hours each day but it is not in one single sleep, I use to sleep in the bus, in the metro or even in the table at restaurants or coffee shops, I think is an skill I adquired by the mexican culture. I usually sleep 8 hours at night and then after meal I sleep around 30 min. And during the day I sleep 15 min whenever I can. My work as a cooker is pretty demanding so I need to have energy to last and don't cause any accident.
The rest is important to each person because is the way the body recover their strength the brain restores the energy and develop unique activities like the segregation of ATP. Stopping from medical terms, rest is important to get to achieve our best performance each day. Also someone who has good sleeping is less propense to make mistakes by exhaustion, according to the OMS around 30-40% of the poppulation has sleeping issues and that means 40% of the workers, conductors of public transportation, doctors, policeman, firefighters are not in the best conditionm, this is pretty dangerous if you think about it.
It was really amazing hearing from my friends their lack of sleep and how they do not sleep good quantity of hours, because of anxiety, work because I think that if you sleep enough you will have a better energy to face everything, the stuff like noise and light I understand, I am really grateful of being able to sleep.
We saw a amazing video that made me realize the amazing schedule of japanese workers, it was surprising the way they develped a culture of not sleeping, even romantizicing the extreme moments of fatigue, personally It amazes me how they sleep so poorly and then their health and life expectancy is among the highest. But at the same time I think it is still a problem they should face becasue the lack of sleep affects performance. But at the same time is bad seeing someone who sleeps a lot and adequatly.
Thank you so much for reading my blog, this time I was more related with the topic as someone who likes to sleep this is a pretty interesting topic. I hope you liked it and please sleep adequately
i like that you mentioned the possibility of mistakes by exhaustion. That is a point that i had not really though about. i wonder how much more common these mistakes are compared to a country hat gets more regular sleep at night. Great blog keep it up!
ResponderEliminarIt is interesting to know this about Mexican culture, I also learned that you like to sleep so much you made a word for it "Siesta", in comparison to Japan you sleep more hours because you like to rest but in Japan they sleep in so many places because they have to rest is the impression I got(since they only tend to sleep 5 hours before starting work).
ResponderEliminarYo tambien. Cuando hace tiempo yo duermo por la 20 minutos pero no duermo mas de 3 horas.
ResponderEliminarIt seems like you take advantage of every hour to get enough sleep. I love this for you!
ResponderEliminarOnly if you sleep enough, you can get more energy to face all the things; but at the same time, there are too many things to prevent us from falling asleep… kind of tricky haha
Really interesting post, Emi! I never realized how something as simple as sleep could be influenced by culture. I also found it surprising to see people sleeping on trains or in public spaces in Japan, but now I understand it's not seen as lazy or disrespectful. It’s cool how you’re connecting these observations to what we’re learning in class. Looking forward to reading more of your experiences!
